Stedinger Associates

Stedinger Associates have extensive experience in archaeological assessments, permit applications and excavation as well as heritage conservation, principles and practice. For larger excavations we have an established team. Artifact analysis, photography and planning (total station/AutoCAD) are all done in-house. Our work is carried out in accordance with the Burra Charter, various heritage manuals, standards and guidelines, heritage legislation appropriate to respective States as well as the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

Louise Steding

Louise Steding has 25 years experience in archaeology, general heritage and management and has written and prepared over 150 consultancy reports for this firm alone. Her areas of expertise are historical, industrial and Aboriginal sites. She has also been project manager for several Conservation and Excavation Plans. Louise established the firm in the year 2000 in Sydney, having already worked as a consultant archaeologist for several years across Australia. She also worked in Europe as a senior archaeologist for the State Government of Thueringen (Germany). Louise has extensive experience in project management, excavation direction and general heritage conservation. She has been a heritage advisor for the Department of Planning NSW (Heritage Office) and a casual lecturer at Sydney University in heritage conservation (Architecture Faculty, Heritage Conservation). Dr. Steding upholds the standards and ethics of Australia ICOMOS and the Australian Association of Consulting Archaeologists Inc. and is a full member of both professional organizations. She was Chairperson of AACAI (NSW/ACT) in 2008 and served on the National Membership Committee (2008-2011).

Gerald Steding

Gerald Steding is a conservation planner and restoration expert with over 25 years experience in construction and conservation. Having completed his Masters at the University of Sydney, Gerald is a specialist in structural and industrial heritage - the assessment and interpretation of buildings, infrastructure, machinery and processes. Gerald offers sound advice in heritage planning procedures and requirements. He upholds the standards and ethics of Australia ICOMOS and is a full member of this professional organization. He is also in the Historic Houses Trust and the National Trust (NSW). Before coming to Australia, Gerald spent almost two decades restoring and reconstructing heritage buildings in German cities, including Dresden and Erfurt. He supervised large-scale restoration works at, for example, the Dresdener Castle, the Sempergalerie, the Frauenkirche and other historic buildings dating from the Renaissance to the early twentieth century.
